IS THIS CHILI SPICY?
This Frito Pie recipe is slightly mild to not if that makes sense?! It’s not so crazy hot you’ll be waving your hands over a spicy hot mouth. For my tastebuds, I usually stick to the mild to none type of foods.
If you like it hot, then you can change this recipe up a tad; instead of Original Rotel, you can simply choose between mild or hot instead.
This Frito Pie recipe is perfect for families that do not have a lot of time to make big meals during the busy work week.
Make enough for dinner tonight, and save the rest for leftovers tomorrow. Additionally, you can freeze the chili, as well.

I created this chili recipe when I was a teenager, and I’ve got it down as an adult. Now, I’m going to show you how to make the best Fritos Pie, ever!
This recipe is a no-fuss, super quick chili recipe and it doesn’t require going to specialty grocers to pick up hard to find Ingredients!

INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb Lean Beef [96/4%]
- 1 TBSP Olive Oil
- 1 Small Diced Yellow Onion
- 1 TBS Pre-mince Garlic in a jar
- 1 tsp Mortons Season All seasoning or your favorite spice.
- 1 tsp Onion Salt
- ½ tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 TSP Chili Powder
- 1 14.5 oz Red Kidney Beans undrained
- 1 14.5 oz Pinto Beans undrained
- 1 14.5 oz Black Beans undrained
- 1 14.5 oz Can Tomato Sauce
- 1 10 oz Can Diced tomatoes with green chilies I use Rotel original or mild
- 1½ cups water
- Your favorite shredded cheese
- dash pepper
- Fritos Light
STEPS 1-4 How To Make The Best Frito Pie
STEP 1: Gather and prep all of the ingredients.
STEP 2: Heat olive oil on medium in a large 8-10 quart cooking pot for one minute. Saute’ diced onion and garlic until onion is translucent.
STEP 3: Add beef. Finely break up the beef with a wooden spoon or spatula. Continue stirring until the beef is well done.
STEP 4: Add Mortons Season All seasoning, onion salt, garlic powder, and chili powder. Then, mix well.
STEPS 5-8 How To Make The Best Frito Pie
STEP 5: Add Kidney beans, pinto beans, and black beans.
STEP 6: Add diced tomatoes, green chilies, and whole tomatoes. [optional]
STEP 7: Add the tomato sauce.
STEP 8: Add 1 1/2 cups of water, stir well. Add more water if you’d like it soupier.
STEPS 9-11 How To Make The Best Frito Pie
STEP 9: Bring to a full boil on medium-high heat. Reduce heat to a simmer and cover.
- For quick chili, simmer for 30 minutes, remove from heat, let sit 5 minutes.
- For best results, simmer for 1-2 hours, remove from heat, let sit 5 minutes.
- For ultimate results, simmer for 1 hour, cool, store in refrigerator overnight, and serve the next day. [My favorite]
STEP 10: Remove from heat, Pour some delicious chili in a bowl.
STEP 11: Put a hand-full of cheese on top of the chili with a dash of pepper, and pour the Fritos on top. Add more cheese and stir! Enjoy!
HOW DO YOU HEAT UP THE FRITO PIE?
MICROWAVE: Heat in a microwaveable bowl covered with a wet/damp paper towel for 1 minute 30 seconds, stir, repeat another 1 minute and 30 seconds. Add your toppings. Do not add water.
STOVETOP: Heat in a pot on medium for 10 minutes, or heat to your desired temperature. Do not add water.
CAN I FREEZE FRITO PIE?
Absolutely! Yes, you can freeze the chili. Freeze it in a freezer-safe container, or freezer baggie and save for another time. It’s good for up to 6 months.
